postpartum maternity care and hygiene




Once the child delivery happens within 2 hours time postpartum related concerns and care starts.  First 45 days are essential for postpartum care for postpartum recovery where all symptoms regarding disease or disorder should be carefully observed with utmost child and maternity care. Mothers need consultation on breastfeeding, birth spacing, immunization and maternal nutrition after c-section or normal birth. The most dangerous of all the disorder is postpartum haemorrhage where women die within 4 hours of child delivery due to severe loss of blood. This kind of death is common in anaemic patients who suffers from malnutrition.  Puerperal infection is another postpartum disorder which results in maternal mortality. This infection can be avoided by maintaining proper cleanliness and hygiene at delivery. Child care after birth should be taken care of by providing proper and easy access to mother, parental care, proper feeding, safe environment, nutrition.

Women also suffers from other set of complications like urinary tract infection,  urine retention due to tissue damage during delivery. Pshycological problems like depression and fatigue are also common in those days. Major nutritional deficiencies include iron, vitamin A, iodine deficiency in women postpartum. Complications like asphyxia, neonatal tetanus, respiratory infections are also prevalent among women after child delivery . Post pregnancy belly is affected due to overweight and this becomes a serious concern for women. This belly wrap is a physical medication for physical problem for women.

All these deficiencies, diseases, infections and complications can be managed by breast feeding child. The new born’s immune system strengthens and protects baby from allergies. Breast feeding encourages mother and child bonding and also eradicates all kind of possible infections. The best way to control the problems is to allow breastfeed to new born and to adopt some preventive measures. Mothers and their new born should be immunized with atleast two doses of tetanus toxoid. Third dose should be given in a time span of 6 months and the last two doses at an interval of 1 years time to prevent from tuberculosis. BCG Immunization, diphtheria-pertussis-tetanus vaccine and oral polio is recommended for children at 6,10 and 14 weeks old. Postpartum care should be based on preventive action. This care will reduce the disability and deaths pertaining to postpartum. Postpartum healthcare, maternity girdle and consultation has a direct impact on the child and mother’s health. This c-section binder will add value to targeted diseases like depression due to overweight.

In many developing countries as in like the Asian mothers are under nutrition. Therefore, this affects a lot to mothers and child. As a result child mortality has increased in those areas. Researchers discovered that under nourished mother might produce breast milk in the same quantity as like highly nourished ,but, the milk composition will be less nutritious for child in the case of under nutritious mother. So, It is clear that women need an increased caloric intake throughout the period of lactation. Immunization of mothers is essential to safeguard newborns. Targeted diseases like tuberculosis is cured by BCG immunization, diphtheria is cured by diphtheria toxoid, tetanus is cured by tetanus toxoid, whooping cough is cured by acellular vaccines, viral infection like Poliomyelitis is cured by oral poliomyelitis vaccine (OPV), Hepatitis B and measles are taken care of by immune. Overweight is tackled by maternity support belt which supports the belly under pressure and fasten the process of weight loss. These belts can also be used as c-section support belt.
